Vision
Through effectively utilizing resources from the environment around them, human beings have been able to develop civilization. By using fossil fuels, underground resources that have been created over millions of years, we started the industrial revolution, created countless wealth, and enjoyed a more convenient life. Yet, at some point, we were faced with the limits of the earth itself in the form of its environmental constraints.
Climate change, a crisis that is drawing special attention, is mainly caused by the increase in fossil fuel use, which in turn has caused complex and diverse problems such as: the emission of greenhouse gases, desertification, abnormal weather, and infectious diseases. At the same time, controls on greenhouse gas emissions have become a constraint on the use of fossil fuels. It exposes the boundary in current social systems that have been enjoying growth based on the availability of low-cost and infinite energy and geographical frontiers.
Key in creating a sustainable social system is a transformation from conventional hunting-driven civilizations that squander resources and destroy the environment, to cultivation-driven civilizations that realize the benefits of long-term conservation of the global environment and human society. Nippon Biodiesel Fuel (NBF) was founded in 2000 with the aim of switching hunting-derived energy to cultivation-derived energy through transforming botanical resources into a new renewable energy for humanity. In order to solve the conflicts in social systems that stem from environmental resource constraints, NBF is not limited to its original business, energy. Instead, we have expanded our business activities to cover multiple fields, and we endeavor to put a new “Cultivated Civilization” into practice in order to create a consummatory society that is not based on quantitative growth.
